Children can learn effectively from watching television. Therefore, children should be encouraged to watch television both at home and at school. To what extent, do you agree or disagree?
Knowledge can be easily and effectively acquired by children through watching a wide range of TV programmes as they are funny and easy to understand. Thus, some people claim that children should be encouraged to watch various TV programmes both at home and at school. In my opinion, I cannot agree and take their side.
It is evident that disadvantages of watching TV outweigh its advantages, if children are allowed to watch TV both at home and at school. Firstly, it is absolutely impossible for TV to take the place of schooling when children are growing up, because schooling helps children acquire knowledge systematically and pick up useful skills, such as efficient communication, effective interaction, etc. Further, it causes serious eyesight damages for children to stare at TV for hours. As far as I am concerned, if I watch TV constantly for one hour or so, I will definitely have sore eyes.Last but not the least, TV overdose creates isolation among children, because it makes them feel lonely and not willing to make friends. And it could become a serious problem in the long run as it will greatly impair children’s ability on team work and cooperation.
Admittedly, some advantages do exist when it comes to watching TV, like helpingchildren get relaxed and relieved from their tightened mind due to intense study. This is especially true in today’s society as children are confronted with increasingly strong competition at school. However, watching TV is not the only method that can get children out of their stressed study. More meaningful methods should be resorted to, such as sports, school clubs and other extracurricular activities.
In conclusion, it is not recommended that children are allowed to watch TV both at home and at school, since its disadvantages obviously outweigh its advantages. And we should help children seek and develop other meaningful activities to get them emancipated from their stressed study life.
