Some people think the fittest and strongest individuals and teams will win in sports, while others believe it is those who have a good mental attitude will win in the end. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
It takes a variety of qualities to win in sports. Some value the physical strength of the player or the team while others consider a stable and healthy mental attitude as the key to success. In my opinion, the combination of the two is the best way leading to the championship.
A healthy and strong physique is the prerequisite condition of a good athlete. This is not hard to image as it takes a lot of energy and stamina to engage in a sport such as running, playing basketball or ice hockey, etc. Those who are unable to sustain their energy in the sport field will easily lose the competition. A fit and strong body also means a strong immune system that can fight back viruses and bacteria, preventing an athlete from falling to illnesses. This is because sports training, more often than not, requires long hours of training and exercise, those who easily get ill are more likely to miss chances to get training, or even to compete in the sports field. In addition, without a good body and strong professional skills, it is no use having high moral quality as they cannot even get a chance to display their performance.
Those who argue that a good mental attitude is the deciding factor may also have their reasons. Firstly, a stable mind and good attitude serve as the bonus to help athletes to win in sports. This is especially true when two teams are equally competitive in their strength and skills. The one who boasts better mental attitude is more likely to give the full play of their abilities. Besides, a good psychological quality is beneficial to the personal growth and career development of one athlete. Just as a Chinese saying goes,:” Victory and defeat are both common in battle”. Without a sound mental attitude, a sportsmen may be easily get frustrated and lose the will to win after experience failures in the sports fields. On the other hand, with a good mental state, those athletes can better cope with pressure, frustration and temporary setbacks, thus more possible to give full play to his potentials.
In summary, physical strength and mental attitude are both important in the sports competition. The best way for sportsmen to achieve is the combination of the technical superiority, physical ability and good psychology.
