The tendency of human beings to copy one another is shown in the popularity of fashion in clothes and consumer goods. To what extent do you agree and disagree?
Creativity is a unique feature that human beings possess. However, in our daily lives, more often than not, people would imitate the ideas of others, which is obvious in the field of arts, science and media. Similarly, this phenomenon is particularly apparent through the popularity of fashion industry and commodities. Therefore, I definitely agree with the statement that the trend of people to mimic one another is reflected in the popularity of fashionable clothes and commodities.
For one thing, the motivation of making profit for the designers and showing off for the consumer is a key reason why imitation is a common behavior in the fashion industry. Indeed, in most cases, people would buy the latest and the most popular clothes. Understanding the psychological need of the customers, some world-famous fashion designers would design the clothes in similar styles, colors and fabrics. Likewise, the customers are prone to favoring the so-called fashion and fall victim to that. Therefore, both the customers and designers are imitating the fashion respectively. For example, every year, the fashion shows are held in Paris, Tokyo, New York and London, in which hundreds of new clothes are put to the market. However, most people, if they watch the shows on TV or on the spot, would be confused by the similarities of the clothes, but they still want to buy the designer clothes because they could boast their good taste or high social status to their friends. Thus, designers or their companies would make a huge profit from the consumers.
For another, lack of creativity is another reason why people would mimic the behavior or ideas of other people. In the perspective of some commodity companies, what they want to immerse their product into the market. However, they would not make much effort in developing new product. For instance, since the iPad was launched by Apple Inc., most giant companies such as SONY and SAMSUNG copied the functions and designs of the iPad. Similarly, in terms of the individuals, most people would buy the most popular commodities in order to be in fashion. Take the iPhone as an example. Whenever the latest generation of iPhone is launched, people will swarm to buy the cell phones, no matter how expensive they are. What they think is that fashionable things are the best and most suitable so that they do not have some new ideas to get something different. Thus, creativity fades away step by step and the trend of copying one another has been a common code.
From the reasons I have outlined, the tendency of people to imitate the behavior or ideas is clearly reflected in the popularity of fashionable clothes and commodities.
