Some people think young people are not suitable for important positions in the governments of countries. Some think it will be a good idea for younger people to take these positions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
People have different views about whether or not young people should be appointed important positions in the governments of countries. Although I accept that many young people often do things that are reckless since they might lack useful experience and knowledge of the world, I disagree with the idea that young people are not elected to be involved in governance and democratic process simply because of their age.
Admittedly, young people might face significant challenges in governance work, since they might lack the experience, the diplomatic insight and the intuitiveness of older politicians. Or probably young people might cause turmoil in political dynamics since the youth have a more "revolutionary" character and like to break the old patterns from time to time. However, if young people are often not involved in the participation of democratic process due to their young age, this means that young people’s concerns are not being met and their knowledge, skills and energy are not being used. It would really be a pity since young people have new perspectives and tend to be more innovative and creative. Besides, new politicians are not as biased as politicians that have been on the system for a long time. They might bring more benefits than drawbacks to the country.
Therefore, age, and age alone, should not be a determining factor, instead, competency is. Since young people’s capacity can be increased by years of actual combat experience, they should be given more opportunities to engage in governance work and those who with experience should guide the young and not stifle them.
In conclusion, all government positions should be accountable and open to election. If they are sophisticated and competent enough, young people should be appointed important positions in the governments. Getting them actively involved with decision-making process nationally and internationally, increasing numbers of young people may feel more empowered, interested in and able to engage with governance structures in the future.
