Topic 8: some people think science contributes more to the society; others believe subjects such as language or business make a bigger contribution. What’s your opinion?

From my point of view, I tend to support that science contributes more to the society. This view is based on the 3 grounds.

Firstly, science pushes forward to the significant advancement of human civilization. Tracing back the history, old China contributed the 4 big scientific inventions such as papermaking, fire powder etc. Once papermaking skills were spread out, it became much easy for peoples to preserve their thoughts and valuable results in books and consequently left valuable knowledge and cultures to modern society. I believe the values in those books are widely involved in various fields, not only in science and history field, but also in education, business and communication field. Upon invention of fire powder, foreigners ramped up guns thus facilitating the world war occurrence. As concluded, I think science takes more significant role to contribute to the society.

Secondly, science, as a symbol of people’s new creativity, represents an incredible production capability. It is able to bring forward substantial revolution efforts to change the environment and people’s life. The invention of steam machine in England eventually led to the great industrial revolution in 17th century. Afterwards, England turned out to be a powerful and wealthy country, conquering many nations including old China by their advanced weapons. With the invention of telephone, we don’t need to worry to communication with long distance. In short, science makes our life more effective and colorful.

Thirdly, with the science contribution, it is much easy for people to make business or communicate with each other. I would like to mention the invention of internet, which turn our traditional life to a new era. We cheer up that we are able to do many businesses more effectively through internet, which substantially reducing processing time and cost. We are able to chat online through various chatting software wherever we are. In that sense, the science advancement actually pushes through the development of business and communications.

The last but not the least, I believe science will continue making substantial changes to our daily life. We admire those scientists and are looking forward to new invention of science to bring the good for human society.
