Scientists have for decades contributed so much to social development for human being with modern technology. But this time around, they must confess that the world faces big environmental problems, and they in turn have to find effective solutions. Some people insist we ourselves should change our own lifestyles to reduce pollution or energy waste, while others still count on governments. I believe both should play their parts for the sake of human being.
Firstly, modern lifestyles should be responsible for environmental issues. For instance, when we enjoy the comfort and convenience of modern transportation means, particularly automobiles, a large amount of exhaust gas released will result in serious air pollution. Also, what humans take from the environment may lead to bad consequences, in the form of land for agriculture, mineral and fossil fuel resources or  timbers. Nowadays we are surrounded by threats from deforestation, erosion, damage to ecosystems and reductions in biodiversity. If we do not change our current lifestyles but keep exploiting the nature, we would definitely suffer from worsening crisis.
 
On the other hand, governments should really heighten their awareness of environmental conservation. Developing national economy is necessary but not everything. Effective remedy for current world environmental degradation requires action by governments across the globe, for example, to reduce burning of fossil fuels and develop renewable energy resources. This is something individual people are unable to accomplish. And the governments can enact laws and regulations to require citizens to do anything environmentally-friendly, but forbid them to release too many pollutants to the air, water and other environments.
In addition, most social organizations can help with it as well. For example, modern companies can require employees to use teleconferencing facilities so that they don’t have to travel to meetings, thus reducing use of cars.
Only when both the governments and social individual members
make joint efforts can we improve our environment.
